New York-bred Fourstar Crook broke her maiden in her fourth career start on Oct. 8, 2015, at Belmont Park, the first of eight consecutive wins spread out over the next 17 months. The Freud mare, trained by Chad Brown for owners Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables, and Gary Aisquith, brought her “A” game to all three of New York’s main racetracks during the winning streak, closing out her 4-year-old season in 2016 with two consecutive stakes wins for New York-breds.
New York-bred Fourstar Crook broke her maiden in her fourth career start on Oct. 8, 2015, at Belmont Park, the first of eight consecutive wins spread out over the next 17 months. The Freud mare, trained by Chad Brown for owners Michael Dubb, Bethlehem Stables, and Gary Aisquith, brought her “A” game to all three of New York’s main racetracks during the winning streak, closing out her 4-year-old season in 2016 with two consecutive stakes wins for New York-breds.
Brought back in May 2017 for a 5-year-old campaign, she won another state-bred stakes at Belmont Park and then shipped to Parx Racing in Pennsylvania for the Grade 3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes on July 4, which she won by 2 ¼ lengths under Joe Bravo. A runner-up finish under Javier Castellano in the Yaddo Stakes followed in August 2017 before Fourstar Crook got back on track with a win in the John Hettinger Stakes at Belmont Park She closed out her 5-year-old season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 E. P. Taylor Stakes at Woodbine.
Fourstar Crook returned from a five-month freshening in the Grade 2 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs and closed from off the pace to prevail in a thrilling finish with Proctor's Ledge. She then finished second to stablemate Sistercharlie in the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley Stakes on April 14 before getting the better of Sistercharle two months later when winning the Grade 2 New York Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets. Fourstar Crook made her next start in the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes on Aug. 11 and rallied willingly in the stretch to finish second to stablemate Sistercharlie.
After the Beverly D., Brown gave Fourstar Crook a break of nearly two months. She returned in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl Stakes on Oct. 5 at Belmont Park, and rallied in the stretch under Irad Ortiz Jr. to win going away, securing her first top-level win and earning an automatic berth in the Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf.
