Focus Group

Focus Group needed three starts to earn his first career victory, prevailing by 1 ½ lengths on July 30, 2019 on the grass at Saratoga Race Course. He finished his 3-year-old season with three straight defeats, the last a third-place finish in October at Belmont Park.

Focus Group regained his winning form in his first start as a 4-year-old when closing from 10^th at Keeneland in April 2018 to win by 1 ¼ lengths. After a close fourth-place finish in July at Belmont Park, Focus Group followed with back-to-back wins at Saratoga Race Course, the latter in the John’s Call Stakes, a 1 5/8-mile turf race. He ended the season with a third-place finish in the Grade 1 Pattison Canadian International Stakes at Woodbine in his graded stakes debut.

Following a 5 ½-month layoff, Focus Group returned in the Grade 2 Pan American Stakes on March 30 at Gulfstream Park and held off a determined late charge from Melmich to nail down his first graded stakes win by a nose in a thrilling finish.

Focus Group's dam (mother), Cocktail Hour, is a full-sister (same dam, same sire) to Grade 1 winner Film Maker.
