Fanciful Angel made 23 starts in Europe and Dubai competing in handicaps and occasional group stakes before shipping over to the U.S. in August 2017 to contest the Grade 1 Arlington Million. Sent off at odds of 73.10-1, the 5-year-old Dark Angel gelding broke poorly but recovered and closed with a rush to edge out Deauville for second behind Beach Patrol.
Transferred to trainer Chad Brown and kept in the States, Fanciful Angel next ran in the Grade 1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and once again rallied late to grab second behind Beach Patrol.
