Falling Sky went 2-for-3 during his 2-year-old season with his only downfall coming in the Inaugural Stakes where he finished fourth to Purple Egg. Falling Sky sold for $425,000 at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company January 2013 Winter Mixed Sale. He paid back his new connections when he won the first race for his new connections in the Sam F. Davis (G3), earning 10 Kentucky Derby points.
After a third in the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and a forth in the Arkansas Derby (G1), Falling Sky headed to the Kentucky Derby, where he finished nineteenth.
