Everfast won his career debut on Aug. 12, 2018 at Ellis Park. He subsequently was unplaced in both the grade 3 Iroquois Stakes and Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity. He then finished third in an allowance race at Churchill Downs before running last of 14 on a sloppy track at Churchill in the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes.
Everfast was unplaced in his 2019 debut, but bounced back nicely in his second start in the Grade 2 Fasig-Tipton Holy Bull Stakes, in which he rallied late to finish second to Harvey Wallbanger.

He then started in three consecutive graded stakes races with disappointing results, finishing eighth, ninth, and fifth. Trainer Dale Romans entered Everfast in the Preakness Stakes on the day of the draw, and he was regarded as an afterthought by most bettors based on his form. With Joel Rosario in the irons, Everfast rallied strongly in the stretch to edge Owendale and finish second to War of Will, outrunning his 29.30-1 odds.
