After a pair of unplaced finishes, El Tormenta was gelded and he won his next start by three lengths on May 27, 2018. He next ran second in the Charlie Barley Stakes at Woodbine in June before a runner-up finish in an allowance race in August. El Tormenta regained his winning for in September 2018 with an allowance win at Woodbine when cutting back in distance to sprinting.

In 2019 after an unplaced finish in his season debut, El Tormenta fought off Emmaus in the stretch to win the Grade 2 Connaught Cup Stakes at Woodbine on June 1 to secure his first career stakes victory. El Tormenta followed with a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1 Highlander Stakes at Woodbine. After a runner-up finish in an allowance race at the Toronto-area track, the Stormy Atlantic gelding ran fourth again in the Grade 2 Play the King Stakes Aug. 24 at Woodbine.
Three weeks later El Tormenta earned a career-defining victory when he rallied through an opening on the inside and outfinished Grade 1 winner Got Stormy to win the Grade 1, $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile Stakes Sept. 14.
