Ectot was a three-time group stakes winner in France, including a Group 1 victory in 2013, before he was shipped to the United States and joined the barn of Todd Pletcher for the 2016 season. He finished fourth in the Lure Stakes at Saratoga Race Course in his stateside debut before a runner-up finish later during the Saratoga meet.

By 2005 European Horse of the Year Hurricane Run out of the Linamix mare Tonnara, Ectot is a half brother to Group 1 winner Most Improved.
