Daddy Nose Best

Although his pedigree says that he should be a capable dirt horse, Daddy Nose Best's past performances show that he thrives on turf and the synthetic Tapeta Footings surface. It was just a matter of circumstances that put the son of Scat Daddy in six consecutive turf races in 2011. After a couple of tries in dirt sprints and a troubled trip on grass, Daddy Nose Best broke his maiden at Saratoga at 1 1/16 miles on grass. He finished third in the Grade 3 Summer Stakes on grass at Woodbine on September 17, which set him up for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, where he was sixth after a tough trip. He won an allowance race on the turf in late November at Churchill Downs and was fifth as the favorite in a turf stake at Santa Anita on December 31. He turned in an impressive performance winning the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby on the Tapeta surface at Golden Gate Fields in his 3-year-old debut on February 18. Daddy Nose Best punched his ticket to the Kentucky Derby with a victory in the Sunland Derby and finished tenth in the first jewel of the Triple Crown.

Daddy Nose Best, who is out of a Thunder Gulch mare, was purchased for $35,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale.
