Carrick recorded clear victories in his first two starts, both at Belmont Park, in May and June 2018, respectively. He then ran third in his stakes debut in the Grade 3 Kent Stakes at Delaware Park.
Trainer Tom Morley had enough confidence in Carrick to send him to the Grade 1, $400,000 Secretariat Stakes for his next start and the chestnut colt did not disappoint. He rallied wide into the stretch and reeled in multiple graded stakes winner Analyze It to prevail by a neck and give Morley his second career Grade 1 win as a trainer.
