Global Thoroughbred and Top Racing’s Caracaro did not race until December of his 2-year-old season, when he finished second in a seven furlong race at Gulfstream Park. He returned in just over a month, taking a one-mile maiden on Jan. 11, 2020, at Gulfstream but was then given over six months off by trainer Gustavo Delgado.

The Uncle Mo colt was ambitiously placed for his comeback in the Grade 3 Peter Pan Stakes on Saratoga’s July 16 opening day card. He validated that decision with a game runner-up effort to Country Grammer, earning 20 qualifying points for the Sept. 5 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.
Making his next start in the $1 million Runhappy Travers Stakes in August at Saratoga, Caracaro finished second to Belmont Stakes Presented by NYRA Bets winner Tiz the Law and earned 40 additional points toward qualifying for the Kentucky Derby, locking down a spot in the starting gate for the run for the roses.
