Candy Boy ran into some of the best California 2-year-olds last year when trying to break his maiden but everything finally went his way when he ran at 1 1/16 miles and he won by 8 1/4 lengths. He followed that up with a second-place finish in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity, putting himself in the Derby spotlight.
In his 2014 debut, Candy Boy prevailed in the Grade 2 Robert B. Lewis Stakes to cement his credentials as a top Kentucky Derby hopeful. He followed with a third-place finish in the Santa Anita Derby in his final prep race for the 2014 Triple Crown series.
