Call Paul, a 2-year-old Friesan Fire colt, was purchased by co-owner Michael Dubb for $210,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic auction and validated that figure with an easy 2 ¼-length win in his career debut at Delaware Park on July 5.
Shipped to Saratoga and elevated to a graded stakes, he once again impressed in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special Presented by Coors Light on Aug. 12, holding off a challenge from Churchill Downs shipper Tight Ten in the stretch and winning by a length.

Stretching out in distance for the first time for the one-mile, Grade 1 Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, Call Paul tasted defeat for the first time when third. He followed with another third-place finish in the Grade 3, one-mile Nashua Stakes on Nov. 4 at Aqueduct. He regained his winning form in the Pennsylvania Nursery Stakes in which he pulled away to a dominant five-length win at Parx Racing.
Making his 3-year-old bow in the Grade 3 Swale Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 2, Call Paul rallied from fifth and pulled away to win by 1 1/4 lengths as the 3-2 favorite.
