Winning his maiden on Sept. 11 at Churchill Downs, Brody's Cause came back a little under a month later when he won the Claiborne Breeders' Futurity for his first graded stakes victory. The win was over the same track as the Breeders' Cup Juvenile, a race Broady's Cause finished third in later that month.
Brody's Cause finished seventh in the Tampa Bay Derby in his 3-year-old debut but rebounded in a big way in his second start, surging clear in the stretch at Keeneland Race Course to win the $1-million Toyota Blue Grass Stakes and punch his ticket to the Kentucky Derby.

By European Horse of the Year Giant's Causeway, Brody's Causeway is out of stakes placed Sweet Breanna with his granddam being Sweey Roberta, who was second in the 1989 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
