By 2003 Belmont Stakes winner Empire Maker, Broadway Empire made his debut at Turf Paradise, breaking his maiden by a dominant 16 1/2 lengths. After a disapointing start in the Grade 3 Affirmed Handicap, he won three straight stakes races including the Canadian Derby and Oklahoma Derby, both Grade 3 races.
The colt was given a break after finishing unplaced in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and the Zia Park Derby. He won his 4-year-old debut impressively and finished fourth in the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Stakes.
