Blueskiesnrainbows flashed a glimpse of his potential when he finished third in the 2012 Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby, which was won by eventual dual classic winner I'll Have Another, in his sixth career start. The English Channel colt was beaten by a half-length in the Santa Anita Derby in his stakes debut, and he subsequently established his status as a top 3-year-old with a victory in the Grade 2 Swaps Stakes in July at Hollywood Park.

Heading into 2013, he won an allowance race at Santa Anita and took fourth in the Grade 2 Mervyn LeRoy Handicap. Back at Del Mar, BlueSkiesnrainbows placed third in the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap and had a dissapointing finish in the Pacific Classic Stakes. A short month later the colt won the Ralph M. Hinds Handicap by a competitive four lengths. He went on to finish second in the 2013 Breeders' Cup Marathon under jockey Martin Pedroza.

Blueskiesnrainbows is a 2010 Keeneland Select September Yearling Sale Graduate, with a sale price of $33,000.
