Europe-based Birchwood won his first two career starts before a third-place finish in his stakes debut. The colt then won the Group 2 Superlative Stakes and finished third in the Group 1 Vincent O'Brien National Stakes before heading stateside for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf, where he finished third.
Birchwood is an Irish-bred son of Dark Angel, out of the Exceed and Excel mare Layla Jamil.
