Best Performance broke her maiden at first asking at Belmont Park and stepped up to stakes company in her second start, finishing second in the Astoria Stakes. She finished second in her next three starts as well, including the Grade 3 Schulerville Stakes on dirt at Saratoga and the Grade 3 Miss Grillo Stakes on the Belmont turf. She continued her runner-up string in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, finishing second to Rushing Fall in the Grade 1 race at odds of 15-1.
