Bellera, a daughter of Bernardini owned by Mathis Stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, finished second in her career debut at Gulfstream Park on May 31, 2019, and then reached the winner’s circle in her next outing, winning by 5 ¼ lengths at Monmouth Park on July 6.

She then took an allowance optional claiming race at Saratoga and finished second in one at Keeneland in advance of her stakes debut in the Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm Handicap at Aqueduct on Nov. 2. Bellera lost her rider at the start of that race after another horse broke out, but was not injured and returned at the end of the month for the Nov. 29 Comely Stakes at the same track.
With John Velaqzuez aboard, Bellera tallied her first stakes win by 1 ¾ lengths and improved to three wins from six career starts. The Florida-bred was purchased by Mathis Stables for $90,000 as a Keeneland September yearling in 2017.
