Bast, a 2-year-old Uncle Mo filly owned by Baoma Corp. and trained by Bob Baffert, finished second in her career debut to Inspiressa at Del Mar on Aug. 11. She returned in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante on Aug. 31 and turned the tables on that foe, pulling away to an authoritative 8 3/3-length win under Drayden Van Dyke. She punched her ticket to the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies with a hard-fought win over Comical in the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes Sept. 27 at Santa Anita Park.

After finishing third by two lengths in the Juvenile Fillies, Bast bounced back nicely to win the Grade 1 Starlet Stakes at Los Alamitos. She set a pressured pace in the Starlet and then fought back tenaciously to hold off Juvenile FIllies runner-up Donna Veloce by a half-length.
Bast continued to impress as the calendar turned to 2020, winning her first start as a 3-year-old in the Jan. 5 Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita Park. She rallied in the stretch from a stalking position and scored by 1 ¾ lengths as the 3-5 favorite.
Baoma Corp. bought the filly for $500,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July sale of selected yearlings in 2018.
Bast is out of the Arch mare Laffina and from the family of Grade 1 winner Fault and Grade 2 winner Fioretti.
