#7 Bubbas Dixie: There aren’t many barns that have been hotter than this one. Cecil Borel, the older brother of Hall of Fame rider Calvin Borel, has won with six of 11 starters at Oaklawn. One of those wins was two weeks ago with Bubbas DIxie, with Calvin aboard (he’s won on 35% of his mounts for Cecil at Oaklawn dating back to last year). The horse absolutely relished stretching back out to a mile and a sixteenth — a distance at which he has won four times and hit the board in 10 of 13 starts, the majority of those races against much tougher company. He’s a horse who benefits from a solid pace to run into, and I think he’ll get it again from #1 Hinton, #2 Dapper Jack, #4 Kristi’s Copilot, and #10 Eights and Aces.

#7 Fort Knox: This horse finally put it all together in his last start at Fair Grounds and he did it in breathtaking fashion. Not only did he draw off to win a maiden special weight race by nearly nine lengths, what was most impressive was the maturity he showed in settling in and rating off of an even-money favorite. The ride itself was an indication of how much confidence the rider had in the horse. In his race prior, Fort Knox was sent early and managed to fend off a number of challengers who came at him well before the turn for home. The only horse who drew away from him was Major Fed, who went on to finish second in a division of the Risen Star Stakes Presented by Lamarque Ford and fourth in the Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby. Fort Knox seems to have turned a corner and he should be a handful in this spot.
