#6 Off My Stage: Don’t let the poor placing last out fool you. This is a horse who debuted in a stakes race. In her first race against maidens, she crushed. She followed that up with a score in allowance-level company in her next race. Since then, she’s been a touch inconsistent but I wasn’t totally discouraged by her sixth-place finish last out in her first turf try. She turned for home extremely wide in that race and lost all momentum into the lane. She picks up apprentice rider Avery Whisman who, in a short period of time, has proven both a solid turf rider and a jockey who knows how to save ground. Trainer Mark Reid has been sending out some live runners at Pimlico too. This is a sneaky little play at what could be a pretty big price.

#4 Love You Much: This horse pulled a “reverse-Bodexpress” in his last race; rather than lunging out of the gate, he just stood there for about a second and spotted the rest of the field anywhere from a couple to a dozen lengths. It was the first time he’d caught a firm turf course in about nine months, and he did come flying home late. If it stays dry, he figures to not only get the kind of surface he likes but he’ll also get a dream pace setup. There are three bona fide speedsters signed up for this one. Love You Much has the ability to rate off the pace and is drawn well enough so that he shouldn’t lose too much ground either. He’s dangerous and he might be overlooked in the betting.
