#3 Neetee Rides Again (12-1): As we’ve moved from winter to spring and seen turf racing returning to tracks up north, these are the kinds of horses you always have to be ready to spot. Neetee Rides Again has run very poorly dating back to last September. But what’s most important to note is that she’s largely run on dirt during that period. This is a mare who was bred for the turf and her turf results (once you put lines through her dirt races) prove that out. At this exact level going almost a mile on the turf in 2017, she posted a 61 Beyer Speed Figure — that’s a number that would probably win her this race by two-to-four lengths. She’s also been raced mainly in sprints and she has the look of one who’d like to go a touch longer. This is a very soft group and the price will be right on Neetee Rides Again. Be prepared to fire away!

#3 Cheese On (15-1): Why settle for one turf longshot when we can cash with two? In his most recent start, this horse broke poorly and spotted the field a bunch of lengths that he could never make up. That was his first try dropping down from allowance level to this $12,500 claiming level. He deserves another shot based on the trouble out of the gate, for starters. I think he also fits from a pace perspective with an inside draw. He’s shown enough early foot on the dirt to expect him to be able to maintain position on or near the rail, stalking the pace while saving ground. It’s generally tough to close from too far off the pace in these turf sprints at Pimlico, so he’ll definitely be in the right position tactically — it’s just a question of finding some running room late.
