Parx Racing, Race 7, $150,000 Turf Amazon Stakes, 3:28 p.m. ET

#8 Change of Control: Although she hasn’t won in a couple of races, this filly has some excuses and seems to be well positioned here to run a big one with the aid of a more favorable draw and pace scenario. She was caught way wide in a field of 11 horses last out at Laurel Park. Losing ground on the turn for home on that course can be extremely costly, but Change of Control still managed to storm home for second over next-out stakes winner Introduced. The fourth-place finisher from the last race also came back to win. This is a smaller field with a concentrated trio of speedsters who should guarantee a brisk pace on the front-end. All of that should set up to the benefit of Change of Control.

Parx Racing, Race 8, $150,000 Parx Dirt Mile Stakes, 4 p.m. ET

#7 Golden Brown: This could be an opportunity to leverage a potentially vulnerable favorite into a nice score with an outsider who has proven form on the track and in company that largely fits here. Golden Brown actually got his first win more than a year ago on the dirt main track at Parx. He stretched out from there and ultimately had some success on the turf, too, winning the Kent Stakes at odds of 15.60-1. But since coming back in the spring, he’s run three times on the dirt and has been pretty impressive in every start. In one of his two victories this year, he defeated two next-out winners including graded stakes-tested Dark Templar. Last out, Golden Brown rolled late to easily defeat the likes of multiple graded stakes winner Sunny Ridge. The only loss this year on the dirt for Golden Brown was at Saratoga, where he finished behind Tom’s d’Etat (who’d be the favorite if he was in this race) and Wooderson. The class of this field is clearly Coal Front but he’s looked a step slower at times this year. He’s also going to have to contend for the early lead with speedster Diamond King, who’s drawn to his outside. If the pace is hot early, that should certainly set up nicely for a stalking Golden Brown.
