#10 Miko: This mare has been the picture of consistency over the course of her 14 career starts. You can look back at her past performances and pretty quickly identify excuses for her few poor efforts, which have primarily been the byproduct of catching wet surfaces and races that have washed off the turf. In her Tampa debut last out, she rallied nicely to win at the $16,000 claiming level. She faces tougher here but this isn’t her first time wading into allowance company. She’s been competitive at this level before and looks like she’s coming into a big race, third-off the layoff for new connections and a more-than-capable trainer.

#10 Still Dreaming: I had been waiting to see exactly when and where this horse would pop up next. So, naturally, I’m eager to bet this half-brother to Nyquist when he returns for his third career start off of a three-length victory last out at Laurel Park. The horse who finished second in that race, Red Gum, came back to handle a talented-looking field in his next race, and he did it pretty easily. There’s a good chance Still Dreaming gets overlooked in the betting, despite his pedigree, his $460,000 purchase price and the aggressive placement off the maiden score. He’ll need to take that next step in a race that features Grade 1 winner and Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile runner-up Knicks Go. But I think that one will have plenty of company on the front end and the pace should be sizzling early, which should also benefit Still Dreaming (assuming he’s as handy as he appears and can settle off the pace a few lengths without losing too much ground).
