#6 Buddy’s Run: We’re probably not going to get the type of price here that we usually target with these plays, but we’ll take standouts where we see them. This horse a ran a deceptively fast half-mile last out, and rather than fading he kicked late and just barely lost by a neck at the wire. Buddy’s Run, however, was four lengths clear of the next-closest finisher. He also posted an 89 Equibase Speed Figure (ESF) in that spot – and that’s easily the best last-out number of any in this field (Buddy’s Run also posses a race-best 94 earlier this year at Gulfstream Park). This barn is scorching hot and the trainer’s first-call rider this meet is aboard for the ride. Pretty logical single in the early pick 5.

#5 Lady By Choice: This filly has been keeping some solid company while her form has remained consistently good since mid-summer. She ran a comparable field off its feet last out and the runner-up finisher came back to win in her next start. In October, she finished third in a race where the runner-up came back to win before jumping into stakes company. Apart from Lady By Choice’s solid form and running lines, she also appears to be the lone speed on Saturday. She comes out of several sprints where she either dictated or sat just off of the pace. Her best performances have been wire-to-wire victories or instances in which she's been no more than a length off the leader throughout. Given the shape of this race, there’s virtually no scenario in which she wouldn’t get her preferred trip.
