Oaklawn Park, Race 9, $750,000 Oaklawn Handicap, 6:22 p.m. ET

#1 Tenfold: This is a blast from the recent past. Tenfold, you might remember, became a serious player on last year’s Triple Crown scene when he won an allowance race at Oaklawn and then jumped into the Arkansas Derby before finishing less than a length behind Justify when third in the Preakness Stakes. Later in the summer, he won the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes but never really established himself as a consistent force among last year’s 3-year-old runners. Anyhow, he’s back, and he ran one of his best career numbers last out in winning what was simply a setup race for this one. His stalking style should suit from the rail, where he can save ground behind Pioneer Spirit. He gets blinkers on for the first time and sees the return of regular rider Ricardo Santana Jr.

Oaklawn Park, Race 10, 7:05 p.m. ET

#5 Single Gem: This might be a horse who gets overlooked a bit since he’s jumping up in class and had really been pretty inconsistent until his blowout win last month at Oaklawn. What stands out here is that he represents the only straight speed horse in the field. If he gets out of the gate cleanly, he just might inherit a soft-enough pace to overcome what he needs to make up for in class. He’s also run a few of his best races on wet tracks and with wet conditions expected Saturday, that moves Single Gem up even more.

Strategy on a $10 Budget

$5 win and place on #5 Single Gem ($10)

Strategy on a $25 Budget
