Belle’s Best Bets: Saturday Stakes Picks at Four Tracks

Penelope P. Miller/America's Best Racing

America’s Best Racing, Belle Premium American Vodka, and handicapper (and avid gambler) Monique Vág team up to provide horseplayers with their best bets of the weekend.

Vág will identify her top picks as well as at least one longshot play of the weekend, a nice opportunity to swing for the fences on a win bet or to take a shot with a show bet. She also will occasionally look for strong exacta plays for the weekend or try to spot a nice opportunity for other wagers.

Belle Premium American Vodka is the official vodka of America’s Best Racing. The American-made, American-owned vodka is distilled in Virginia, the birthplace of Thoroughbred breeding and racing in North America. The company’s mascot, Belle ‘n Tonic, broke her maiden at Laurel Park in Maryland in April 2018.

This Weekend’s Bets

Saturday, July 6

Best Bet

Arlington International Racecourse, Race 5, $75,000 Addison Cammack Memorial, 4:41 p.m. ET

#3 Richiesinthehouse: Even though this is a big step up in class, his success over the all-weather surface has been too prominent to ignore and his early speed should help solidify a position upfront early. There doesn’t appear to be much speed entered, and he excels when able to have his own way on the front end. Look for him to bounce back in a big way while returning to a sprinting race on the Arlington all-weather surface.

Longshot Play

Woodbine, Race 8, $100,000 My Dear Stakes, 4:45 p.m. ET

#6 Bayerly Seen: She looked great in his debut, winning comfortably and being bet down to a very short price as the favorite last time out. Her last race was initially scheduled for the turf but was moved onto the dirt, and she took really well to that surface. The Tapeta surface on the main track at Woodbine is often tricky, but in a sprinting race, front-running horses with a ton of early speed can prove very difficult to beat.

Best Bet

Delaware Park, Race 8, $200,000 Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes, 5:12 p.m. ET

#3 Gaining: She has historically found success within the graded stakes ranks in England, and although she is yet to win on North American soil, she has put forth two really solid runner-up finishes. The shortening in distance today could help her chances to hang around late at the wire as it did appear she tired when racing at the mile and a half distance last time out.

Longshot Play

Belmont Park, Race 9, $1,000,000 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, 5:44 p.m. ET

#8 Social Paranoia: The added distance today could certainly help his chances as there have been numerous races this year where it seemed like he ran out of racetrack while closing late. He is at his best working out a stalking trip and draws a great post to sit just off the speed. He’s shown that he can compete within the graded stakes ranks, and the high morning-line odds warrant a closer look.

Favorite Sports Pick of the Weekend

Saturday, July 6

MLB: Baltimore Orioles @ Toronto Blue Jays

PICK: Baltimore Orioles ML (odds: TBD): The Jays have really struggled this season at home, posting a 17-27 record. The Orioles have the worst record in the AL East, but send Andrew Cashner to the mound who has gone 8-3 with a 4.03 ERA through 16 starts and has pitched exceptionally well in June posting a 1.44 ERA. Look for him to find success once again in a favorable outing.
