When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.
Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016 but was in the red for 2017. How will he do in 2018? To find out and to play along, come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

Woodbine, Race 9, $250,000 Canadian Stakes Presented by the Japan Racing Association, 5:27 p.m. ET
#7 Bletchley: This filly has visually run her two best races at Woodbine, backed up by a set of 103 Equibase Speed Figures in the Nassau Stakes and Dance Smartly Stakes. In the Nassau, she made a move that had her hung wide coming off the turn and through the stretch. She clearly closed best of all and just missed at a mile – and this race is a mile and an eighth. In the Dance Smartly, Patrick Husbands again took her way too far off a very slow pace. Hardly anyone closed late but Bletchley did make up a lot ground, after navigating her way through traffic. Think she just might benefit from the jockey change to Jerome Lermyte. We’ll hope for a fast pace and a bit of an earlier, ground saving move, if possible.

Woodbine, Race 11, $300,000 Northern Dancer Stakes, 6:36 p.m. ET
#1 Mekhtaal: This horse ran a huge one at Woodbine back in July in the Nijinsky Stakes. Watch the replay, because it’s worth taking a look at how slow the pace was. Tiz A Slam walked on the lead and no one was getting to him in the late stages, except for Mekhtaal who closed from the clouds and finished a half-length behind. It was his first race in 10 months, and now he’s had another 2 months off. Trainer Graham Motion should have him ready to fire here. Stablemate Utmost is also entered and should ensure an honest pace to run into, along with Tiz A Slam and Markitoff, who can prompt the pace if that’s what their connections want to have them do.
