When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.

Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016 but was in the red for 2017. How will he do in 2018? To find out and to play along, come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

#5 Behavioral Bias: Lots to like here with this 4-year-old gelding who gets blinkers for the first time, making his return to Saratoga where he ran his best career race last August at this same distance. They’ve tried him going a little longer of late but he looks best suited to seven furlongs. Over the past five years, trainer Al Stall has had 24 horses run off this type of short layoff while adding blinkers for the first time — seven of them won and 13 have finished in the money with a plus 42 ROI (credit to STATS Race Lens research tool).

Saratoga Race Course, Race 7, 4:16 p.m. ET

#6 Memories of Peter: Truth be told, I might just be chasing losses here after a bitter defeat last summer with Memories of Peter here at Saratoga. In July, he ran a strong race at this distance but may have gone just a bit too fast early before giving it up late. But it was the race after where I was all-in on Memories of Peter when he broke in the air and was finished at the break, since he always likes to be on the front end. That’s where he’ll be in this race — assuming he breaks cleanly — and I think I might be able to walk the dog here, coming in fresh with a solid turf rider up.
