When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.

Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016 but was in the red for 2017. How will he do in 2018? To find out and to play along, come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

Laurel Park, Race 4, 2 p.m. ET

#8 Corvid: At face value there isn’t much to like about this filly who has plummeted down the class ranks in recent months. However, her only race at this level going six furlongs (two races back) was easily her best. She finished second there and returns here while cutting back from a mile to three-quarters of a mile.

Look for #11 Rightupyouralley to gun it from the gate and for Corvid to track her. It should come down to those two in the stretch.

#4 Late Night Pow Wow: This filly has been a Charles Town specialist, most recently winning the Cavada on Breeders’ Classics night. There’s a ton of speed signed up for her Laurel debut and that will certainly play to her tactical running style. I’d expect her to sit just off them and then pounce late. Let’s hope we can catch something close to the 8-1 listed on the morning line.
