When it comes to making money when handicapping races and betting on horse racing, it’s all about picking winners. Tordjman – DanonymousMan to those who follow him on Twitter – is one of the brightest young minds in the game.

Each Week, Tordjman will provide readers with his two best bets of the weekend and strategies for how to bet them. Tordjman will keep track of his return on investment (ROI) throughout the year and, as a bonus, he will also provide picks for a selection of the key races on the Triple Crown trail and the road to the Breeders’ Cup. Dan was able to manage a positive ROI for his plays in 2016 but was in the red for 2017. How will he do in 2018? To find out and to play along, come back every week and be sure to follow Tordjman on Twitter.

Fair Grounds, Race 8, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Turf, 4:53 p.m. ET

#1 Pont Du Gard: You can put a line through his last race as it was washed off the turf. Prior to that, Pont Du Gard was in against stout graded stakes company on the turf. The Secretariat Stakes at Arlington might’ve been a touch too far for him and it was also a Grade 1 race. In this spot, he’s up against restricted Louisiana-bred company and has to navigate just a mile and sixteenth. At the distance, he’s been beaten only a couple of lengths against Grade 3 runners, so he’d seem to fit quite nicely from a class perspective. Drawn to his outside are #2 Battle at Sea and #8 Morning Mischief — both are generally fast away from the gate and should ensure a solid pace, which should benefit Pont Du Gard.

Fair Grounds, Race 10, $100,000 Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Stakes, 5:51 p.m. ET

#5 Viva Vegas: This is another “class” play where you’ve gotta love this filly coming out of four straight graded stakes races for a test on Saturday against horses who’ve largely been running in state-bred stakes company. Unlike our first race this week, this one doesn’t appear to be loaded with too much speed which, in this instance, benefits the always forwardly-placed Viva Vegas. Look for jockey Joe Bravo (who’s been hot of late) to get this filly to the front and stay there.
