The San Pasqual Stakes at Santa Anita Park, a Grade 2 race on the main track at 1 1/16 miles, was first held in 1935. Scheduled during January, it is one of Santa Anita's main preps for older horses in advance of the Santa Anita Handicap in the spring.
Winners over the prior 30 years include such notable horses as Precisionist, Criminal Type, Alphabet Soup, Silver Charm and Congaree.
The most recent winners of the San Pasqual are two of the top handicap horses currently in training: Hoppertunity (2015) and 2014 Horse of the Year California Chrome (2016).
