Signalman

Signalman debuted with a runner-up effort at Churchill Downs in May of his 2-year-old year but would not race again until September, breaking his maiden at Saratoga by a nose. He then returned to Kentucky where he again finished second, this time in the Grade 1 Claiborne Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland.

His next start would come in the Breeders' Cup back at Churchill Downs. Breaking from the outside post at long odds, Signalman was immediately angled to the rail where he would stay until commencing a rally in the stretch, closing to finish third.

Signalman returned to Churchill's main track for the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, a Road to the Kentucky Derby prep race on Nov. 24. Breaking from the inside post position, he benefited from a patient ride by jockey Brian Hernandez Jr. and shot through on the rail in midstretch to defeat Plus Que Parfait and pick up 10 qualifying points for the 2019 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve.

After disappointing when seventh in his 3-year-old bow in the Grade 2 Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes, Signalman improved significantly in his second race of the year when third in the Grade 2, $1 million Toyota Blue Grass Stakes. He was unable to qualify for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve but did start in the Preakness Stakes, where he finished ninth. Returning to his home track in the June 15 Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs, Signalman turned in a better performance, finishing second behind Mr. Money.

Trainer Kenny McPeek picked out the son of General Quarters as a yearling for $32,000.
