Major Fed

Major Fed ran third in his career debut Nov. 23, 2019, on a sloppy track at Churchill Downs. The Ghostzapper colt followed with a 4 ¼-length win Jan. 1, 2020, at Fair Grounds in his 3-year-old debut.

Trainer Greg Foley tested Major Fed next against graded stakes competition and he rallied gamely to finish second in the second division of the Risen Star Stakes Presented by Lamarque Ford Feb. 15 at Fair Grounds. He followed with a fourth-place finish in the Grade 2 Twinspires.com Louisiana Derby March 21 at Fair Grounds.

Major Fed's next start was the Matt Winn Stakes at Churchill Downs in May, which was made a Kentucky Derby points race following the delay of the Derby due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished a disappointing last of 10 while racing wide throughout, but rebounded with a runner-up finish to Shared Sense in the July 8 Indiana Derby, another Kentucky Derby points race. Major Fed earned 10 more qualifying points with the effort.

Out of the winning Smart Strike mare Bobby’s Babe, Major Fed is a full-brother to Grade 3-placed winner Zapperini and a half-sibling (same dam [mother], different sire) to stakes winner May Lily.
