Lady Apple

Lady Apple ran second in each of her first two starts, posting a runner-up finish in April 2018 at Keeneland and then coming up just a neck short in the Astoria Stakes in June at Belmont Park. After a fifth-place finish in the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes and another unplaced finish, Lady Apple did not race again as a 2-year-old.

The bay Curlin filly returned on Feb. 7, 2019, and won her 3-year-old bow at Oaklawn Park, pulling away to a 1 ½-length victory. Lady Apple followed with a two-length win in a May 23 allowance race at Oaklawn before returning to stakes competition at that track for the Grade 3 Fantasy Stakes on April 12. In the Fantasy, Lady Apple reeled in favorite Motion Emotion in deep stretch and surged to victory from the inside.

Lady Apple headed to Churchill Downs for the Longines Kentucky Oaks next, where she finished third behind Serengeti Empress and Liora. After a two-month layoff, Lady Apple returned in the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks on July 5 and outfinished Ulele by a half-length to prevail.

Trainer Steve Asmussen shipped Lady Apple to Saratoga for the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes on Aug. 17, but she disappointed with an eighth-place finish. The filly rebounded in her next start, the Grade 3 Remington Park Oaks on Sept. 29, defeating Gold Standard by a half-length to pick up her third Grade 3 event. Lady Apple was then shelved for the remainder of the year with an eye toward her 4-year-old season.

Lady Apple kicked off that season with a victory in the Houston Ladies Classic in January 2020, defeating Kentucky Oaks winner Serengeti Empress by a half-length at odds of 8-1.

Lady Apple is out of Grade 2-placed Miss Mary Apples, by Clever Trick. Miss Mary Apples also produced Grade 2-placed stakes winner Dr. Diamonds Prize and multiple stakes winner Miss Red Delicious.
