Imprimis won first out at Gulfstream Park in a five-furlong turf sprint on Feb. 2, 2018. The Broken Vow gelding proceeded to win three more turf sprints through the spring, changing owner and trainer after his second win, and ended the streak with a 5 ¼-length score in a listed stakes at Pimlico Race Course on May 18.
Imprimis won first out at Gulfstream Park in a five-furlong turf sprint on Feb. 2, 2018. The Broken Vow gelding proceeded to win three more turf sprints through the spring, changing owner and trainer after his second win, and ended the streak with a 5 ¼-length score in a listed stakes at Pimlico Race Course on May 18.
Trainer Joseph Orseno started Imprimis in the Grade 1 Highlander Stakes at Woodbine at the end of June, and he suffered his first defeat when sixth. The gelding returned with another listed stakes win at Monmouth Park, and then closed out his 4-year-old season with another loss when fourth in the Grade 3 Turf Monster Stakes at Parx Racing in September.
Imprimis returned after a six-month absence on March 9, 2019, and posted an easy 3 ¼-length win in a five-furlong listed stakes at Gulfstream Park. He then broke through with his first graded stakes win in dramatic fashion on April 6 at Keeneland, dropping to his knees right after the start of the Grade 2 Shakertown Stakes but recovering to gamely rally past Bound For Nowhere in the final strides. He then traveled to England for a run at the Royal Ascot meet but could do no better than sixth in the Group 1 King's Stand. After some time off he returned with a fourth-place finish at Kentucky Downs and followed that up with a third-place effort in the Woodford Stakes at Keeneland in October. Imprimis ran sixth, beaten by four lengths, in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint in his final start of 2019.
Imprimis returned from a long layoff in the Grade 3 Troy Stakes Aug. 8 at Saratoga Race Course, where he rallied from just off the pace to post a clear victory, but he was disqualified and placed third for interference in the stretch. He followed with a determined victory in the Grade 3 Runhappy Turf Sprint Stakes Sept. 12 at Kentucky Downs to earn an expenses-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 7 at Keeneland. He closed out his 6-year-old season with an unplaced finish in the Breeders’ Cup.
Imprimis won the Janus Stakes Jan. 1 at Gulfstream Park in his 2021 debut before running second in the Turf Dash Stakes Feb. 24 at Tampa Bay Downs. He next finished second again, this time after leading in deep stretch, in the Grade 2 Shakertown Stakes April 3 at Keeneland.
