With exactly one week before the biggest race of his career, Arkansas Derby winner Overanalyze dazzled on Saturday in his final major workout for the Kentucky Derby.

Overanalyze was the fastest of 70 horses to work a half-mile at Churchill Downs, covering the distance a fifth of a second faster than the nearest worker, stablemate Palace Malice, who covered the distance in in 47.20. The pair worked together with Overanalyze starting about a length behind Palace Malice but the duo was even at the finish line. Hall of Famer Gary Stevens was aboard for Overanalyze’s work with Hall of Famer Mike Smith on Palace Malice.

Smith will ride Palace Malice in the Derby with Rafael Bejarano on Overanalyze. Stevens will be on D. Wayne Lukas’ Oxbow.

Trainer Todd Pletcher worked nine of his Kentucky Derby and Oaks contenders with Coolmore Lexington Stakes winner Winning Cause scheduled to work on Monday to determine if the colt will be entered in the Kentucky Derby.

Unbeaten Verrazano, the probable favorite for the Kentucky Derby, worked five-eighths of a mile in :59.40, which ranked sixth of 52 workouts at the distance.

“We had a really good morning,” Pletcher said.  “I thought Verrazano’s work was very good. He was well in hand and handled the track well. I also liked Revolutionary’s drill. He went very well and galloped out strong.

“Overanalyze’s work this morning was very good. It was his best work ever.”

Kentucky Derby contenders Goldencents and Itsmyluckyday and Kentucky Oaks contender Beholder all arrived at the track on Saturday morning. Goldencents shipped in from California for trainer Doug O’Neill, who trained last year’s Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner I’ll Have Another.
