Episode 17 - Anatomy of a Race


Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton breaks down a winning race, taking you through his decision-making process. He evaluates the turf, assesses the competition, and finally takes you step by step through the race itself. Follow along as Tim explains in detail why he made the decisons and moves he made, and how it all came together to land Tim and Wicklow into the winner's circle.

Episode 16 - Expect the Unexpected

Each time a jockey shows up for the day's races, he or she never knows what that day may bring.  Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton knows well that really anything can happen. An unexpected horse may step up and win, a longshot may outrun his odds, and as always, the starting gate can prove to be one of the most unpredictable places on the racetrack.

Episode 15 - Claims and Clips

Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton shows you that even if it's a slow week for him, it doesn't necessarily mean that it's not exciting! First Tim takes you through the races of two recently claimed horses. After that, get more intimate with the Helmet Cam as Tim explains how his view and the broadcast view can greatly differ.

Episode 14 - Bumps & Bolts

Some days are just eventful days. Sunday, August 19th 2012, looked promising for Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton as he went into the day's races with a chance to win on five horses. The day takes an interesting turn as a couple horses bolt and a couple more cause inquiries.

Episode 13 - Pills, Peddock & Peyote

Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton introduces us to another aspect of the racing game - the jockey agent. Find out more about what goes into getting the races set up, and why a jockey needs an agent. Also, Seattle Train acts up in the paddock and Tim's favorite horse, Peyote Patty, runs in the Illinois Owner's Stakes, a race she won in 2009.

Episode 10 - Peyote Patty

Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton takes us through the career of his favorite horse, Peyote Patty. Discover why she has been such a special horse in Tim's life as he takes us through the ups and downs of her career from her memorable five-race win streak in 2009, leading up to her recent win at Arlington Park.

Episode 9 - Blue

In this episode, "blue" is the theme - starting with Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton's dog, Jake, a Blue Heeler. After spending some time with Jake, we learn the story behind Tim's blue boots, and take a tour of the Arlington Park jock's room. Tim then introduces us to Blue Knott, Arlington Park's starter, and we find out more about how the starting gate and the gate crew operate.

Episode 8 - Pace Makes the Race


Travel with jockey Tim Thornton to Canterbury Park as he rides the favorite in a stakes and hangs with his best bud, jockey Tanner Riggs. Back at Arlington Park, Tim meets with a group of handicappers from Pace Advantage, and explains how pace effects a race's outcome. Afterwards, 8-year-old Luke Johnston joins up with Tim for a visit to the Jock's Room.

Episode 7 - Every Morning

Have you ever wondered what it's like to be a jockey working horses at the track at 5:30 am? In episode 7 of "Behind the Silks," join Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton for the ultimate backside tour as he takes you with him out on the track and into the barns of trainers Mike Reavis and Larry Rivelli.

Episode 6 - Grand Slam

Ride along with Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton as he guides Team Block's Mavericking through an exhilarating stretch run up the rail, leading to the winner's circle. Then Tim ties his own personal record by winning four races in one day and later celebrates with a crawfish boil at Cisco Torres' house.

Episode 5 - The White Oak

Jockey Tim Thornton recaps his races from Prairie State Festival Day. He also takes us through a recent scary moment aboard the Louie Roussel III-trained Triple Check, that results in a trip to the stewards' office. The "Triple Check Incident" causes Tim to reflect back on a similar, but even more dramatic experience aboard Strategic Sun in 2006.

Episode 4 - Father's Day

 Get to know a more personal side of Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton, as he talks both about his father and being a father himself. Tim then takes you through Brothers Nicholas's most recent win - up close and personal - with some help from the Helmet Camera.

Episode 3 - Prairie State Festival

Arlington Park jockey Tim Thornton and his agent must face a tough decision with two horses entering the same race. Tim talks about his horses for the upcoming Prairie State Festival at Arlington Park, including his favorite mare Peyote Patty, and takes his new Equisight helmet camera to chief state steward Eddie Arroyo for permission to start wearing it during live races.
