Fall Trends at Breeders’ Cup for Any Budget: Mod

Events / Travel

Welcome to Part Two of my series on how to incorporate fall’s biggest fashion trends into your Breeders’ Cup look for three different budgets. I’ve taken some of the best looks from autumn runways and made them raceday ready, and whether you’re into courture or scour your computer for the best deals, there’s a way to make these trends into racetrack classics for the Super Bowl of horse racing at the Breeders’ Cup World Championships.

The 1960s are back with designers such as Chloé, Valentino, Prada, and Diane Von Fursentburg all showing Mod looks in their Fall/Winter 2014 shows. Mod is a great way to dress, with the vintage aesthetic updated for the new millennium. Here are three examples of how to work the look into your Breeders’ Cup outfit at three different price points.

Diane Von Furtsenburg is one of the great designers of the modern era, as she brings classic chic and modern style together in a way that flatters. I love this mod-inspired shift for $399, and it goes perfectly with the silver-tone hat ($351) from Boticca. Update the ‘60s white go-go boot look with a pair of cream pumps from Gianvito Rossi for $790. A $395 Tori Burch bag in silver complements the dress’s silver tones, and the elongated white hoop earrings ($175, Alexis Bittar) are a perfect accessory. Finish the look off with a Karl Lagerfeld watch for $225 and a dynamite pair of Thierry Lasry sunglasses for $415 and you’re off to the races for $2,750. (If you’re like me, this outfit will only happen right after hitting a really huge Pick Six bet; but I digress.)

The broad orange stripes (also a fall trend!) on this vintage-inspired dress ($140, ModCloth) are perfect for autumn in LA, and I added a beautiful high-heeled loafer for $90 from Shoemint. A round long-strap handbag ($50, NastyGal) recalls the ‘60s without getting too literal, and the white hat ($13, Deer Mum) keeps you in the spirit of the races. Gold hoops for $31 from LAUREN by Ralph Lauren and a pretty bracelet with a swallow charm ($95, MCQ by Aleander McQueen) finish off the ensemble, which comes to $419.

I love this pattern on this $27 Black Five dress, and the high neck and shift shape are Mod all the way. Your feet will thank you for the stylish silver $44 loafers from Missguided, and you can fit all of the money you’re saving in this chic tote for $42 from Go Jane. Shine on in a $25 bracelet from Armitage and accessorize the look with these fantastic button earrings for $12 from Overstock.com and $14 sunglasses from Trish. Add a coat or two of this $8 Pixie nail polish and you’re Breeders’ Cup-bound in an on-trend Mod look for just $172.

Thanks for stopping by, and I’ll be back soon with more fall trends for any Breeders’ Cup budget! Have a look from this autumn’s runways that you’d like to see me take on? Let me know in the comments!
