We are officially in the cold weather season! I love bringing out my sweaters, leggings, wool coats and hats from storage every winter because there are so many fun ways to change up and style winter clothing … but the one item I look forward to wearing the most are my tall boots! Living in New Orleans, however, the typically warmer Southern temperatures only allow me to wear my favorite boots for a few months out of the year, so I enjoy it while I can!
To say I like tall boots would be an understatement. Growing up riding horses, I have worn my share of riding boots and have grown accustom to them. From lace up field boots, short paddock boots, and pretty brown leather hunt boots, I’ve ridden in them all. Today, I own several pairs of tall boots, a fashionable tribute to my riding roots.
Whether you ride horses, love horses, or just love the equestrian look, the one wardrobe essential for chilly weather is the tall boot. This is a classic way to incorporate an equestrian touch to your wardrobe. While there are many variations of the riding boot out there, some more true to the authentic version than others, a classic tall English riding boot is knee height, made of durable leather, with a very small and low heel, the boot either zips up, laces up, or slips on over breeches (the type of pants riders wear, think: a very durable legging).
Here’s my pair of riding boots, still a little dirty from my last ride:
There are so many gorgeous tall boots out there to wear as part of your wardrobe it can be a bit overwhelming trying to find the perfect pair, so I’ve nailed down a few of my favorite looks and sites to help guide you:
Ariat Heritage Contour Zip Field Boot from DoverySaddlery.com
If you are going for a true authentic boot…this boot is for you! When riding, I prefer the Ariat brand because of its high-quality and sleek look. These lace-up front field boots are comfortable and stylish. (Note: True riding boots are very durable and fit snug. It might take a few weeks of wearing them to break them in.)
The Vachetta Stirrup Riding Boot by Ralph Lauren
Ralph Lauren does an excellent job with their equestrian boots. This is a very pretty pair with a brass “stirrup” detail at the heel. The design stays true to the authentic riding boot look. Make sure to explore their site and check out more great boots!
Point Tea – Tan Luichiny from Heels.com
I love online shopping, and I am regularly checking out Heels.com. You can find a variety of fun shoes at affordable prices. I LOVE these equestrian-inspired tall boots. They have a great “slightly worn and ridden” look to them that make them a great casual boot. Pair them with your favorite skinny jeans and a cream sweater for an effortless chic look!
“Bella” Boot from Nordstrom.com
I’m always looking for a deal, and I can always find one on Nordstrom.com. The site has a great variety of equestrian-style boots, many under $100, including this cute pair:
I’ve also purchased fantastic leather tall boots from www.Ruelala.com and, surprisingly, Victoria’s Secret also has some fun boots that are classic and stylish! Check out their “Riding Boots” selection here:
Whether you go for the authentic riding boot, or equestrian-inspired designer version, you can’t go wrong wearing your boots with leggings and a blazer or sweater….or with a cute dress like I did at the Harvest Cup Polo Classic:
Tall boots are a fun and easy way to step out in classic equestrian style!
