For many of my generation smart phone applications come and go.

Over the years, there have been popular games that went in and out of fashion, and there have been a variety of apps pertaining to social media that, for a period of time, can dictate your life.

Then there is that last group of apps that stay the course, the apps to which you are forever loyal.

Which apps make that list? For me, the WeatherChannel is a must. I have one to control my bank account and Pinterest is a regular visit for down time, among a few others. Recently added to the “list of loyals” is Kenny McPeek’s new Horse Races Now application that keeps me connected to horse racing around the country at the touch of a screen.

While it is great that I love the app, I am already an industry participant and horse racing fan. So the question remains: how can this application become an integral part of the ever-elusive millenial’s day-to-day life without quickly fading into the background?

Unfortunately, that question isn’t answered easily, but McPeek and company have the right idea. This application is perfect for any new fan entering the world of horse racing. It is easy and straightforward because it gives ownership to the fan. This application, once brought to the attention of potential fans, will turn those new fans into loyal ones.

The NBA, NFL and most other professional sports leagues have a smart phone application that keeps fans tied to the game, anytime and anyplace. These apps include game recaps and player statistics; they include all the tools necessary to keep a fan involved and attached to the sport and the league.

The Horse Races Now app takes this concept to the next level. This app’s primary focus is not toward a league; it takes into account only the user’s preferences. Meaning that, an app made by the NBA shows you all games, but there is not room for much specificity. The HRN app, however, allows you to track the parts of the sport most important to you. You, as the user, essentially create your own version of this application that feeds you information based on your preferences. You create lists of your favorite tracks, jockeys and/or horses and can follow the sport through the aspects of it that are most important to you. This app is perfect for fans, new and old, because you can customize the app to include as much (or as little) information as you would like.

Aside from the way this application allows fans to uniquely attach themselves to the sport, it also provides an outlet to both live racing and wagering. To watch your favorite track’s day of races or the next big Kentucky Derby prep, one must simply click the “Live Racing” button and follow that to the track of their choosing. As a citizen currently without HRTV or TVG, I am extremely grateful for this! And you’re not going to only watch the race, right? Just click the “Wager” button and follow the link to your favorite online gambling site to place a bet!

What more can you ask for from a smart application? It breaks the barriers of the sport by providing all the tools necessary to enjoy horse racing in one, easy-to-use app.

Until recently, horse racing has been perceived as disconnected from the ever-evolving world we live in. With an app like this, however, horse racing takes a step out of the dark and into the minds of people, young or old, who can influence the future of this sport. Horse Races Now is the fan-friendly innovation that connects horse racing to this bright new world.

It is my goal to have the #TheCoolestHorseRacingAppEVER trending by the Florida Derby. Check out the application on your smart phone and I’d be willing to wager you’ll join the movement.
