My name is John Cox and I could not be more excited to represent The Jockey Club and America’s Best Racing as a brand ambassador.
I have been infatuated with the Thoroughbred industry from a very young age. I grew up going to races and sales at places like Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Fasig-Tipton, as well as a yearly summer trip up to Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
My parents started a sign and graphic design company called Thorough-Graphics that has been serving horsemen for more than 30 years now. My grandmother worked at the Blood-Horse for more than 25 years and my uncle has also spent his entire career in marketing Thoroughbreds.
FUTURE RACING FAN
Through working at my parents’ company, I have been able to make many great connections within the industry.
I attended Lexington Catholic High School as well as the University of Kentucky, where I studied economics. I am a huge UK basketball fan and also a big football and golf fan as well.
COX AND HIS SISTER, ABBY
I like all types of music and never shy away from a microphone when asked to sing or do a little karaoke. I also graduated from the Missouri Auction School and have a blast auctioneering, especially at charity events.
COX AT THE MICROPHONE
Ever since high school, I knew I wanted to be involved with the “Sport of Kings” in one way or another. While working for my parents’ company, I met several farm owners and managers and got a feel for how the industry was struggling to get young people involved. Since then, I have enjoyed getting my friends and other peers to learn about breeding, learn how to read a program and learn how to make a wager.
In addition to working with my parents’ company, I also have interned at Keeneland, bid-spotted at Fasig-Tipton, written articles for Brisnet.com that have also been published on NBC Sports and ESPN.com, shadowed bloodstock agent Chris Brothers, worked with yearlings at Lane’s End Farm and Nursery Place Farm, and also was instrumental in developing the Breeders’ Cup FantasyCapping game in partnership with the Vision 20/20 group.
I think our team of ambassadors has unlimited potential to grow the profile and visibility of our sport’s major events, and cannot wait to see what we can accomplish by putting our talents together.
