ABRV - GAMBLING

California Chrome (above) will be the heavy favorite in Saturday's Preakness Stakes. Find out how to make money betting California Chrome for the second jewel of the Triple Crown. (Photo by Eclipse Sportswire)

The strategy from our Making Money Betting California Chrome in the Kentucky Derby blog got us a nice $170 exacta score. California Chrome arrives in the Preakness Stakes as an even bigger favorite than last time, so it’s going to be tougher to make a big profit but we’ll give it a try.

This time we have a smaller field of 10, so I will focus on the trifecta and superfecta.

Also take a look at our six ways to bet the Preakness from the ABR brand ambassadors, where I have a $5 exacta play keying California Chrome for a total of $20.

I think they are all running for second behind California Chrome. He has a great cruising speed and the versatility to place himself in a perfect spot behind the pacesetters.

Social Inclusion and Bayern look like the top two who will set a fast pace in the Preakness with Pablo Del Monte and Ring Weekend not too far behind. The local experience of Kid Cruz might be an advantage to him and the improving Dynamic Impact might be able to get a piece.

I will build my trifecta and superfecta tickets around those horses:

$.50-cent trifecta: 3 with 1,4,5,7,8,9 with 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 = $24

$.50-cent superfecta: 3 with 1,4,7,9 with 1,4,7,9 with  1,4,5,7,8,9 = $24

$1.5-million Preakness Stakes

Saturday, Pimlico, Race 12, Post Time 6:20p.m. ET.
