Name: Georgina Castellucci

Blog: Notes On Lifestyle

What I do for a living: Nuclear engineering administrator and freelance writer

First Thoroughbred track I ever attended was: Saratoga!

Other sports/teams I follow: Baseball, basketball (very casually) and football (my Boston teams only); some golf.

Three words that define what Thoroughbred racing means to me: Thrilling, beautiful and skillful

My personal best moment in the sport of Thoroughbred racing: Our time at Fasig-Tipton was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and definitely the most memorable!

My favorite jockey: Chris McCarron (though retired!)

My favorite trainer: Jimmy Jerkens

My heroes: My mother, grandmother and Maya Angelou

Person in Thoroughbred racing I’d like to have dinner with: Either Sheikh Mohammed [bin Rashid al Maktoum] or Kenny Troutt – probably two of the most high-profile men in horse racing. I would love to visit Mr. Troutt’s WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky.!

My philosophy on life: Live in a way that I can look back and not wish I had taken more chances, pushed myself more or taken additional time/effort to help others. There is something much greater than myself, but on my own, I am a mighty force.

Favorite quote or motto: “A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.” (Maya Angelou)

Favorite animal other than a horse: Dogs and koala bears

Favorite non-Thoroughbred racing sports event I have attended: Red Sox games!

Favorite food: Anything Italian or Ethiopian

Favorite vacation spot: Anywhere on the beach

Favorite city: Chicago (so far)

Favorite musician/band: Lady Gaga

Favorite all-time movie(s): “A Bronx Tale”

Favorite TV show: I rarely watch television

Favorite hotel: The Colonnade in Boston

Websites I visit daily:, refinery29 and tumblr

What I drive: At the moment, a Chevrolet Volt and I love it – thank you General Motors!

Pet peeve: When too much focus is placed on negativity

Favorite movie about horse racing: “Seabiscuit”!

Which actor would play me in a movie: Joy Bryant

Alma Mater: University of Massachusetts

Best book I recently read: “Pain, Parties, Work: Sylvia Plath in New York, Summer 1953,” by Elizabeth Winder

Favorite memento: An antique pin gifted to me from the owners of The Barn at 17 and my antique books

Favorite dessert: Apple pie

Favorite drink: A glass of Villa Russiz Pinot Grigio Friuli 2006

Favorite scent: Jo Malone’s Rain & Angelica

What I like about my job: The challenges and variety of duties

Favorite Tech gadget: My iStick and FitBit

Twitter handle: @BostonGeorgina

People I follow on Twitter: Joyce Carol Oates, Scott Schuman, Alton Brown and Sloane Crosley

No. 1 Bucket-List item: To be penning one of my novels mid-flight between two continents.
