Out of the Gate with ... Britney Eurton
Born and raised in Southern California, Britney Eurton has always had a love for horse racing. Her father, Peter Eurton, is a top trainer on the West Coast Thoroughbred racing circuit. Britney has also always had the performer's bug: from dancing to songleading to musical theater to modeling, she takes any chance she had to be in front of an audience. Now a host on TVG, Britney helps to spread the knowledge of horse racing that she’s gained throughout her life spent around Thoroughbred racing.
Name: Britney Eurton
What I do for a living: Actress and reporter for TVG
How and when I was introduced to Thoroughbred racing: I was introduced as a baby by my father, Peter Eurton, who is a trainer on the Southern California circuit.
My favorite racetrack: I’m torn … It’s a pretty equal race between Santa Anita and Del Mar, but Keeneland also sneaks in there.
My favorite Thoroughbred racing event: Breeders’ Cup!
Other sports/teams I follow: I'm a die-hard Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers fan
What I would like to see more of in Thoroughbred racing: Events geared towards the youth in the sport. We could always use more ways to get them involved!
What I would like to see less of in Thoroughbred racing: The monopolization of the sport by certain owners on each coast. What brings people to the track are the great stories behind some of the lesser-known owners and trainers (ex: California Chrome.)
Three words that define what Thoroughbred racing means to me: Historic, thrilling, unforgettable
First Thoroughbred track I ever attended was: Can’t say I truly remember since I was just a baby, but it has to be Santa Anita Park.
Favorite all-time Thoroughbred: Cigar! I think I was eight when he lost at Del Mar and I was so mad at Alex Solis for beating him that I cried.
My personal best moment in the sport of Thoroughbred racing: More of a most memorable moment than a personal best, but it would have to be seeing Weemissfrankie win on opening day at Del Mar in honor of my late Uncle Frank. There wasn’t a dry eye to be seen.
Best racetrack food can be found at: Santa Anita Park on the Clubhouse Level next to Nola’s Bar. Best hand carved sandwiches ever!
My favorite jockey: Mike Smith
My favorite trainer: Peter Eurton (no competition!)
My heroes: My parents
Person in Thoroughbred racing I’d like to have dinner with: If I could go back in time, Bill Shoemaker.
My philosophy on life: Laugh … there’s no better cure for the upset and sadness the world may bring than a little bit of laughter.
Favorite quote or motto: “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.”
Favorite animal other than a horse: My two Jack Russell Terriers, Zoe and Charli
Favorite non-Thoroughbred racing sports event I have attended: LA Lakers game when they’re on their A-game! Kobe, Shaq, Fisher, Fox… those were the days!
Favorite food: My grandma’s Italian food
Favorite vacation spot: Italy (can’t beat the food and wine!)
Favorite city: London and New York (can you tell I’m a city girl?)
Favorite musician/band: The Killers
Favorite all-time movie(s): Being a movie buff this is tough … “Casino,” “Meet Joe Black,” “Titanic,” “Casablanca” … I could go on.
Favorite TV show: At the moment … “Game of Thrones,” but of all time probably “Friends” or “Seinfeld.”
Favorite hotel: St. Regis Hotel in NYC … it’s a classic.
Websites I visit daily: Twitter, Gilt, EliteDaily, Daily Racing form
What I drive: BMW
Pet peeve: Flaking on plans
Favorite movie about horse racing: Can’t say I’ve absolutely loved any quite yet, but if I had to choose it would be “Seabiscuit.”
What actor would play me in a movie: A young Jennifer Connelly
Alma Mater: University of South California. Fight on!
Favorite radio shows/channels: Can’t say I listen to any radio shows, just music!
Best book I recently read: "The Fault in Our Stars" by John green (keep a box of tissues readily available while reading).
Favorite memento: Mikimoto pearl necklace that belonged to my great-grandmother Mima
Favorite dessert: Warm brownies with peanut butter chips
Favorite drink: A bold Cabernet Sauvignon
Favorite scent: “Nude” by Stella McCartney
What I like about my job: That it never feels like a job. I truly enjoy it.
