DAILY RACING FORM / NTRA PLAYER SPOTLIGHT
Name: Amy Brantley
Resides: Hot Springs, Ark.
Occupation: Chief Compliance Officer
Qualifying Site: NHCQualify.com
Favorite Track: Keeneland
Favorite Wager: Pick 4
How did you first get into horse racing? My dad owned and bred Thoroughbreds from the 1960s into the 1970s. He loved going to the races and I inherited his spirit of the sport.
How many times have you previously qualified for the DRF/NTRA NHC? Four times (2009, 2010, 2013 and 2014).
What is your best finish in a handicapping tournament, and what is your largest tournament payout? If you count online qualifying tournaments, I finished first to qualify for the first BCBC tournament. Last year at the NHC, I finished 18th, which was very exciting. There have been other tournaments online and live that I have finished in the top five. The largest payout would have been the BCBC because of the $10,000 entry and related travel costs plus cashing at the tournament.
What is your most memorable horse racing experience? I am an avid supporter of Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark. It was over 10 years ago, myself and two of my best friends were at the races. It was the last race of the day and the three of us had played a superfecta together. As the horses came down the stretch we began to realize that we would hit the superfecta, and at that time it was a dollar wager. We started screaming as you can imagine and cashed over $2,000. It was a great day.
Does anyone else in your family share your enthusiasm as a horseplayer? Yes, my father and my sister enjoy the sport.
What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of? My education and career because my parents sacrificed for all my brothers and sister to ensure we received a good education.
What would you do with the NHC grand prize if you won? The first thing would be to share it with my friends, who are also horseplayers, while we are in Las Vegas and then pay bills and invest.
