Out of the Gate with ... Faith Conroy

Faith Conroy is a movie co-producer, writer and script supervisor. Her most recent writing work is on “50 to 1,” the story of Mine That Bird’s journey to an unlikely victory in the 2009 Kentucky Derby. Conroy has also worked on such films as “Thor,” “Deep Impact,” “Date Movie,” and “Water for Elephants.”

How and when I was introduced to Thoroughbred racing: In 2007, Jim Wilson invited a group from the crew of the movie “Swing Vote” to watch one of his horses run at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Calif. It won. 

My favorite racetrack: Santa Anita Park

My favorite Thoroughbred racing event: Kentucky Derby

Other sports/teams I follow: Professional tennis, specifically any matches played by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Juan Martin del Potro.

What I would like to see more of in Thoroughbred racing: Winning tickets!

What I would like to see less of in Thoroughbred racing: Losing tickets

Three words that define what Thoroughbred racing means to me: Excitement, friends, fun

First Thoroughbred track I ever attended was: Santa Anita Park

Favorite all-time Thoroughbred: Wilsy’s Wonder. Jim Wilson bred him. He couldn’t stand when he was born, was bottle-fed until he could, and grew up to be a beautiful and strong horse. Because he didn’t like racing all that much, Jim brought him home to live with us. He’s such a sweet boy.

My favorite jockey: Calvin Borel

My favorite trainer: Chip Woolley

My heroes: All the artists, athletes and dreamers of the world

My philosophy on life: Go after your dreams no matter what anyone says.

Favorite food: Anything greasy, salty or full of sugar

Favorite vacation spot: Anywhere I go with a backpack and a tent

Favorite city: I prefer the woods.

Favorite musician/band: I love all music

Favorite all-time movie(s): “Peter Pan” (the one with Jason Isaacs and Jeremy Sumpter), “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” “The Full Monty,” “Midnight in Paris,” “Moonrise Kingdom,” “Michael,” “Dances with Wolves,” and many, many more.
