Out of the Gate with ... Alex Solis II
Bloodstock agent Alex Solis II grew up in a racing family. His grandfather Bert Sonnier was a trainer who conditioned horses such as two-time champion older horse Nodouble and graded stakes winner Meadowlake.
His father, Alex Solis, is a multiple graded stakes winning jockey with nearly 5,000 wins. He won the Preakness Stakes aboard Snow Chief in 1986 and is a winner of the Breeders’ Cup Classic and Dubai World Cup. Solis has amassed purse earnings of $234,947,718 through April 2 and currently ranks 10th in North American earnings.
Solis II spent a lot of his summer time at the barn at Arlington Park as a youngster, and while there he had the opportunity to work for some of the top names in the horse racing business. Solis’ first job in the industry was working for trainer Mel Stute when he was 12. Solis also worked for Taylor Made Farm in Kentucky under John Hall and then later he worked closely with trainers Bruce Headley and Hall of Famer Richard Mandella before branching out on his own and forming his own bloodstock agency (AKA a company that helps people buy racehorses).
