Name: Conrad Bandoroff
What I do for a living: Full-time student at Sewanee: The University of the South
How and when I was introduced to Thoroughbred racing: The Thoroughbred industry is in my blood. My family owns and operates Denali Stud, a commercial breeding farm.
My favorite racetrack: Keeneland, but I love Saratoga as well.
My favorite Thoroughbred racing event: Breeders’ Cup. I think that the Breeders’ Cup really shows what this sport is capable of achieving and should continue to be a springboard into the industry’s future.
Other sports/teams I follow: Arsenal FC and University of Kentucky basketball
What I would like to see more of in Thoroughbred racing: More involvement from my generation. This is an amazing sport and it has something to offer to every person out there. People have an innate attraction to horses and we need to build off that. As an industry, we need to market to my generation because we are the future of horse racing.
What I would like to see less of in Thoroughbred racing: Less stakes races. It is not good for the industry to run stakes that draw four to five horses. The bettors don’t like it, and it makes for boring races.
Three words that define what Thoroughbred racing means to me: Beauty, grace, speed
First Thoroughbred track I ever attended was: Keeneland
Favorite all-time Thoroughbred: Animal Kingdom: that horse has taken me to unimaginable places.
My personal best moment in the sport of Thoroughbred racing: Animal Kingdom winning the Dubai World Cup, because at that point I had developed a bond with the horse and I was able to share the moment with my father.
