Jenna Day of Louisville is the reigning Miss Kentucky and will represent the Bluegrass State in the nationally televised Miss America Pageant on Sept. 15 in Atlantic City, N.J. The University of Kentucky senior is double majoring in vocal performance and political science with hopes of eventually pursuing a career in public service. As part of her title, Day is the spokesperson for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Kentucky Proud program, which encourages consumers of all ages to purchase products produced in Kentucky.

What I do for a living: Currently taking a sabbatical from school to be Miss Kentucky 2013. Most people don’t realize it but Miss Kentucky is a full-time job with the Department of Agriculture. This year, in addition to promoting my personal platform, “Improving the Lives of Special Needs Children,” I will be working to promote the “Kentucky Proud” campaign, which encourages Kentuckians to be healthy and buy locally.
How and when I was introduced to Thoroughbred racing: I grew up in Louisville, Ky., so I am no stranger to horse racing. I remember going to Churchill Downs at a young age, and now that I am a college student in Lexington, I enjoy going to Keeneland with my friends.
My favorite racetrack: Impossible to choose between Churchill and Keeneland. They are radically different but both very special to me.
My favorite Thoroughbred racing event: the Kentucky Oaks!
Other sports/teams I follow: UK Wildcats!
What I would like to see more of in Thoroughbred racing: I’d like to see more young people involved in the events. It’s so much fun, and I think every young person needs to experience a classy day at the races.
